Agreeing with the delegation, Oma Bharti said that if the reservation was to be availed, it would have to be united like the Lingayat community of Karnataka. In fact, the Lingayat community of Karnataka has been demanding and excluding itself from the Hindu religion. Nevertheless, Uma Bharti's example illustrates that in her view, caste identity and self-interest have overtaken Hindutva ideology. Her heart may have been broken when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was last year. Modi inaugurated the Ram Temple. She reached Ayodhya by car to attend but did not attend the ceremony. Oma Bharti also says: "I know that the bureaucracy picks up our slippers.
